About Derek
Derek Harland is an associate in TGF's Restructuring and Insolvency practice group and also works closely with the firm's Commercial Litigation team. He joined TGF as a summer student and articling student before becoming an associate, and has since represented companies, financial institutions, court officers, and other stakeholders in both court-supervised and out-of-court restructuring matters. On the litigation side, he's worked on significant infrastructure and construction disputes, including matters involving P3 projects. Derek studied on exchange at the National University of Singapore, where he received the Thomson Reuters Prize in International Commercial Litigation, and he was awarded the 2019 Insolvency Institute of Canada Law Student Writing Award for a paper on Canadian restructuring law. He sits on the NextGen Committee of the Turnaround Management Association's Toronto Chapter and the Executive Committee of the Ontario Bar Association's Insolvency Law Section, and mentors junior associates and articling students at the firm.
