About Dana-Lyn
Dana-Lyn Mackenzie is a lawyer at Acumen Law Corporation practising criminal law and Aboriginal law, with additional experience in Immediate Roadside Prohibitions, employment law, wills, and estate planning. She was called to the bar in 2012 and has appeared in First Nations Courts, with expertise in Gladue-informed sentencing. Earlier in her career she articled and practised with the Department of Justice's BC regional office on tax law, Aboriginal law, public prosecutions including drug treatment court, environmental law, mutual legal assistance treaties, and extradition, and worked at the Indigenous Community Legal Clinic serving Indigenous clients. She has also served as Director of Student Services at the Schulich School of Law and as Associate Director of Indigenous Legal Studies at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at UBC, where she earned her J.D. and won a Remarkable Woman Award as a student. She holds a BA in Art History from UBC and a Diploma in Fine Arts from Langara College, has volunteer-coached the Kawaskimhon National Aboriginal Moot for nine years, and is a member of the Hwlitsum First Nation and an executive member of the Aboriginal Lawyers Forum.
