Chad Bayne founded and now co-leads Osler's Emerging and High Growth Companies practice group, advising emerging and growth-stage technology companies alongside the venture capital funds, strategic acquirers, and investors that finance and buy them. His mandates span a wide array of deal types, from acquisitions and divestitures to venture capital, growth equity, and private equity rounds, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and initial public offerings. Chad is widely regarded as one of Canada's leading advisors to start-ups and venture investors, and has appeared in the top tier of Chambers Canada's start-up and emerging company rankings every year since the guide began. He has advised on some of the country's most notable technology transactions, including IBM's US$5-billion purchase of Cognos, Hootsuite's US$165-million Series B round, Verafin's recapitalization and later US$2.75-billion sale on Nasdaq, Waabi's Series A financing, and Wealthsimple's large-scale funding round. He also plays a central role in the firm's support of the Creative Destruction Lab, NEXT Canada, C100, Deloitte's Fast 50 program, and the League of Innovators.
