About Brian
Brian A. Beresh, K.C., is the founding partner of Beresh Law and has practiced criminal law for nearly 50 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts with distinction in 1972 and his Bachelor of Laws in 1975, both from the University of Saskatchewan. He was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1976, the Alberta Bar in 1980, the Yukon Bar in 1986, and the Northwest Territories Bar in 2008. He has been named annually as one of Canada's top criminal lawyers since 2006 and was recognized among Martindale-Hubbell's top Canadian lawyers in 2012. Over his career he has been defence counsel in more than 200 jury trials, represented over 300 people charged with murder or manslaughter, and appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in more than 100 cases, including the Milgaard Reference. He is a sessional lecturer at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, teaching Advanced Criminal Law, and served as president of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association in 1984-1985 and as a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta from 2005.
