About Brendan

Brendan Hughes joined ORP Law in 2014 after articling at a large national firm in Toronto and then practising for several years at a boutique commercial litigation firm. He became a partner in 2017. His work centres on insurance defence litigation and media law, alongside a broader background in corporate and commercial disputes. He acts for clients in contractual, occupiers', product liability, and professional liability matters, and represents broadcasters, newspapers, and other media outlets in defamation claims and proceedings involving sealing orders and publication bans. He has also contributed to large, complex files involving shareholder and partnership disputes, real estate development conflicts, and banking fraud actions with receiverships and Mareva and Anton Piller orders. Brendan has appeared before every level of court in Ontario as well as the Human Rights Tribunal, the License Appeal Tribunal, the Real Estate Council of Ontario Discipline Committee, and the Landlord and Tenant Board. He earned his B.A. and LL.B. from the University of British Columbia and was called to the Ontario bar in 2006.
