Barbara Legate is a partner and senior trial lawyer at Legate Injury Lawyers in London, Ontario, practising personal injury and medical malpractice law. Legate earned an LLB from Western University in 1979 and was admitted to the Ontario bar in 1981. Legate is a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation with the Law Society of Ontario and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for personal injury since the list's inception in 1996, including Lawyer of the Year designations in 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Legate is a past president of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, the first woman to hold that position, and sits on the board of directors of the Children's Health Foundation. Legate has chaired legal education programs for the Law Society of Ontario and the Advocates' Society, and has published on causation, limitation periods, and demonstrative evidence in Ontario civil litigation.
