About Alefia Ghadiyali

Alefia Ghadiyali defends people charged with crimes in Kitchener, taking on adult and youth criminal matters alike. In 2023 Alefia and Mel Edwardh started Edwardh Ghadiyali Law together.

Alefia was born in Tanzania, and time spent in Dar-es-Salaam, India and Toronto gave Alefia an outlook that reaches well beyond one country. After earning a law degree in Ottawa, Alefia articled at Cooper, Sandler, Shime and Bergman in 2020 and 2021 and joined the Ontario bar in 2021.

Following articles, Alefia was part of the work behind Missing and Missed, the Independent Civilian Review's report on missing person investigations, which grew out of the Bruce McArthur murders.

Even before that, law school wasn't a quiet stretch. Alefia spent time in the Court of Appeal and in a Crown Attorney's office, and helped get a Muslim Legal Clinic off the ground. With FAFIA, Alefia contributed to work on the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and FAFIA and its partners thanked Alefia by name among the students who assisted on their submission. Alefia also worked alongside the United Nations on violence against women and on housing rights.
