Alan M. Heisey's practice areas include development and municipal law, employment and labour matters, and civil litigation, and he appears regularly before tribunals and courts on behalf of public institutions and large corporations. He has taught and lectured on municipal law at institutions such as McGill University, the University of Waterloo, and Ryerson Polytechnical University, as well as through the Bar Admissions Course, the Real Estate Institute of Canada, and the Canadian Bar Association's Municipal Law Section. Beyond his legal work, he has been active in public service, having served on the Toronto Transit Commission Board as Vice Chair between 2019 and 2020, and having earlier chaired the Toronto Police Services Board as well as the Toronto Parking Authority Board. His appellate and hearing experience spans bodies such as the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal, and various federal boards, with particular depth in land-use planning appeals covering topics like aggregate licensing, the Greenbelt Act, and development charges, and his clients have included developers such as Menkes and Castlepoint Developments alongside municipalities like Oshawa and Markham.
