Paul Allyjan was born in Nottingham, England, and immigrated to Canada as a child, growing up first in Grande Prairie and then Calgary. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in history from the University of Calgary in 2000 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 2003, then articled with a multi-provincial firm before being called to the Alberta bar in 2004. He became an accredited mediator in 2022 and focuses on family law, along with real estate and wills work that complements his family law files. He has tried cases at the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King's Bench, argued appeals at the Court of Appeal, and made a successful written application to the Supreme Court of Canada. He was named Calgary Legal Guidance's Volunteer of the Year in 2013 and serves on the Legal Aid Regional Appeals Committee.
