About Breakwater Law

Breakwater Law is a small law firm in Victoria, British Columbia, with four lawyers working out of an office on Cook Street. It focuses on family law and fertility law, wills and estates, and business law, and its lawyers also take on corporate, commercial, civil litigation, employment, and public and administrative matters. The firm describes its own approach in three words, approachable, modern, and practical, and says it runs a nearly paperless, cloud-based practice aimed at faster and less expensive service than clients might expect from a law office.

Within family law, the firm practises fertility law, negotiating and drafting sperm and egg donation agreements and surrogacy agreements. Managing lawyer Jo McFetridge is one of relatively few lawyers in British Columbia with experience in family law issues that arise in polyamorous and consensually non-monogamous relationships, and is accredited by the Law Society of British Columbia as a family law arbitrator. Associate counsel Jacqueline Flett founded a Victoria practice called Flett Law in 2011, which later became part of Breakwater Law, and now focuses on business and succession planning for entrepreneurial clients.
