About Potestio Law

Potestio Law began in Thunder Bay in 1986, when Tony Potestio started a general litigation practice there. Potestio still leads the firm today as managing partner. Four decades on, the firm remains headquartered in Thunder Bay and has added offices in Vaughan and in downtown Toronto on University Avenue, extending its reach into southern Ontario. The Better Business Bureau records the firm's start date as January 1, 1986, and has accredited it with an A+ rating since March 2023.

The firm's caseload covers personal injury, family law, commercial litigation, corporate law, insurance disputes, employment law, human rights and municipal and planning law. Potestio, whose practice centres on personal injury and civil litigation, is fluent in English and Italian. The associate team includes Monica Zakhari, who holds an LL.B. from the University of Liverpool and works across employment, personal injury, estate and civil litigation files; Alia Khan, a University of Toronto Juris Doctor who focuses on family and estate disputes; Jessi Ruberto, whose background spans real estate, municipal property and economic development; and Rod Johansen, who advises on business transaction structure and financing.

The neighbourhood

Potestio Law's Toronto office is a satellite of a firm headquartered in Thunder Bay, run out of a suite at 480 University Avenue. University Avenue is the same downtown Toronto street that carries the Ontario Superior Court of Justice's civil courthouse, a few blocks south of Potestio Law's suite, which suits a firm handling personal injury and commercial litigation files in the city. Rather than treating the Toronto address as a mailbox, the firm has also shown up locally, taking part in the 2018 Lawyers Feed the Hungry event downtown.
