Katul was born and raised in Scotland and came to Canada at 16. Several years in Toronto followed, including a BA in criminology and sociology from the University of Toronto and an MA from its Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, both in 1994. After Osgoode Hall Law School, Katul was called to the bar in 2002.
Katul's earlier career was in family law litigation, acting on every kind of family matter and negotiating complex settlements inside and outside the courtroom. Training in collaborative family law, a non-adversarial method, taught Katul the value of creative thinking when working out a settlement.
Those litigation years gave Katul a firsthand look at the money and emotional strain the traditional legal route places on families. GL Family Law offers a free consultation, and is happy to talk through the legal options open to you.

Family mediation
Katul is an Accredited Family Mediator with the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (OAFM) and mediates every issue arising from a separation, property, support and children included, without acting for either spouse. The mediator can also draft a separation agreement for each person to take to their own lawyer for review and finalizing.

Collaborative family law
