Doug has a long-standing presence in Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge, knows all three well, and is keen to help clients throughout Waterloo Region and the nearby communities of Southwestern Ontario.
Doug grew up in Waterloo and earned an Honours BA at the University of Waterloo with a focused specialty in Legal Studies. A law degree from Wayne State University in Detroit followed, then articling and work at two civil litigation firms in Northern Ontario, and the call to the Ontario Bar came in 2010.
You will find the office at 245 The Boardwalk, Unit 302, in Waterloo, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
History
Eric Kraushaar had been part of the Kitchener-Waterloo legal community for more than 25 years. Douglas Chan joined Eric M. Kraushaar Law Office as an associate lawyer, the two sharing a wish to give clients personal, informative help. That office received the Diamond award in the Best Law Firm category at the 2017 Waterloo Chronicle Readers' Choice Awards.
On February 28, 2018, Kraushaar retired from private practice to take up another venture and left both clients and files in Chan's care. Chan carries on the practice under a new office name, Chan Law.

Chan Law quotes one fixed, all-in figure for standard real estate deals, covering its fees, office disbursements, registration and HST. Wills, two powers of attorney, estate administration

Incorporations and deals
Chan Law sets up both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, preparing the minute book, first by-laws, resolutions and, where they apply, share certificates. It also works on asset and share purchase agreements and reviews commercial leases.

Its billing policy lets clients phone in a quick update or email a short question without being charged from the very first minute. On real estate files, Chan Law commits to a personal meeting with a lawyer who explains what each closing document means before the client signs it.
The office can book evening and weekend appointments when they are needed. For clients whose health or mobility keeps them from travelling to the office, or when another part of town is simply easier, it will consider meeting somewhere else, such as the client’s home or workplace.
