Robson Carpenter LLP is a law firm in Ayr, Ontario, that works almost entirely in one area: condominium and subdivision development. Craig Robson and Greg Carpenter founded the partnership in 2006. The firm is based in Ayr, a village in the Township of North Dumfries just west of Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge. The firm doesn't try to cover every field of law. It sticks to condominium and subdivision development, plus condominium management, and it advises developers, builders, and condominium corporations across Ontario.
The firm keeps both founders' names. Two things shape how it runs day to day. The small-town base keeps overhead low, which the firm says it reflects in its rates, and it bills in increments of about one minute twelve seconds rather than the six-minute blocks most firms use, so brief tasks cost less. Work is matched to experience, so a partner doesn't do what a law clerk can handle. Because clients range from the Ottawa and Kingston area to Thunder Bay, Welland, and Windsor, the firm leans on modern communication tools to keep distance from getting in the way.

HourlyAyr grew up as a mill town on the Nith River, formed when three early settlements, Mudge's Mills, Jedburgh, and Nithvale, ran together into one village. Nineteenth-century Ayr was a manufacturing centre: the Ayr Agricultural Works, started in 1847, was shipping farm implements across the country by the 1860s. Today it's a community of a bit over five thousand people in the Township of North Dumfries, minutes off Highway 401 and a short drive west of Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge.
That's a fitting base for a development practice. Waterloo Region is one of the faster-growing parts of Ontario, and the firm's work, condominium and subdivision development, tends to follow that kind of growth. The Ayr address also does something practical: it keeps costs down while the firm handles projects for clients spread across the province, from the Ottawa area to Windsor and up to Thunder Bay.
