Accepts Legal AidBoyd Law is a solo immigration and refugee law practice in midtown Toronto, run by Sarah L. Boyd, a Barrister and Solicitor called to the Ontario bar in 2009. The practice handles refugee claims and appeals, sponsorships, admissibility matters, and temporary resident applications exclusively, at both the general and appellate level, and accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates. Boyd sits on Legal Aid Ontario's Refugee and Refugee Appellate panels and appears before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Courts.
Boyd's involvement with refugee claimants predates the law degree. During secondary school and university, Boyd assisted a doctor accredited by the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture with refugee claimant assessments, and interned at the Immigration and Refugee Board in Toronto during both undergraduate and law school years. After a BA from Queen's University and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School, Boyd articled with Lorne Waldman, then worked alongside Barbara Jackman from 2010 to mid 2019, before returning to independent sole practice in 2019.
Boyd also teaches the enforcement course in Queen's University's Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law program and sits on the executive of the Refugee Lawyers Association and the Junior Refugee and Immigration Lawyers Network. Litigation experience includes four Security Certificate cases and the Chhina and Ogiamien immigration detention habeas corpus cases.
