About Portfolio Estate Law

Portfolio Estate Law is a Toronto tax and estate planning firm run by founder Birute Luksenaite from an office in the Kingsway area of Etobicoke. The firm works with Canadian, cross-border, and international clients on estate planning, estate administration, and trustee and fiduciary services, including acting as attorney for property, executor, or trustee of a trust. Luksenaite holds a law degree from Queen's University and a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of Toronto. Before founding the firm, Luksenaite articled at the Tax Court of Canada, then worked in corporate and private client tax law at a national Bay Street law firm, a global accounting firm in Toronto and New York, a major Canadian bank, assisting high-net-worth clients with estate and tax planning, and a Bay Street estate law firm ranked among Canada's top 10.

The firm has a specific focus on artists' estates, providing tax planning for the deemed disposition of an artist's work and building specific terms into estate documents to protect an artist's legacy. That interest traces back to Luksenaite's own background: growing up in the Kingsway and attending Etobicoke School of the Arts, where visual art was a focus that remains, in Luksenaite's words, 'a special interest.' The firm also runs Guided Online Probate Workshops over Zoom, walking participants who are comfortable handling much of the paperwork themselves through Ontario's probate process, the required forms, and how probate tax is calculated.
