Ownright is a digital real estate law firm headquartered in Toronto that closes property purchases, sales, and mortgage refinances online instead of in a traditional law office. The company started in 2022 as Doormat Real Estate Services Inc, co-founded by software engineer Robert Saunders (CEO), real estate lawyer Benjamin Berry (principal lawyer), and Joel Fox (COO), after Saunders ran into a slow, opaque paperwork trail on a first condo purchase. The co-founders built a service that tracks a file's progress on an online dashboard instead of an email chain. The company closed a $4.5 million seed funding round co-led by Alate Partners and Relay Ventures in late December, then rebranded from Doormat to Ownright in March 2025.

Every file is handled by a lawyer under Ownright Law, the firm's affiliated legal practice, and the company is an authorized participant in the Law Society of Ontario's Access to Innovation program. Pricing is flat and shown upfront rather than changing as a deal moves along, and clients can reach the legal and support team by chat, email, or video call during extended weekday hours. Ownright also reviews condo status certificates at no charge and works with buyers, sellers, and homeowners refinancing across Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia.
