About Open LLP

Open LLP is a small Toronto firm at 99 Yorkville Avenue that describes itself as personalized "in-house counsel" for high-growth start-ups and entrepreneurs. Adrienne Ng and Felix Tang launched the firm in 2016. It handles corporate and commercial matters, trademark work, and technology-related legal issues for founders in the technology sector.

Both lawyers came to law after careers in engineering. Ng trained as a chemical engineer at the University of Toronto and worked as a manager of process engineering at Sanofi Pasteur before earning a law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School and being called to the Ontario bar in 2012. Before starting Open LLP, Ng was a partner at a business and IP firm and had worked at a full-service firm on Bay Street. Tang studied engineering science and then computer engineering at the University of Toronto, contributing code to the Linux kernel and winning the Best Open Source Software award at the 2005 ACM Multimedia conference along the way, before completing a law degree with an option in law and technology at the University of Ottawa and working in the business and intellectual property groups at Gowlings.
