About MEQ Law

MEQ Law is a Toronto based corporate and commercial law practice founded in 2024 by Mary Elizabeth (Liza) Quail, who runs the firm as its sole lawyer. The firm is based in Toronto and works with businesses across the Greater Toronto Area as well as clients in Ottawa, Waterloo, and Hamilton.

Quail earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of British Columbia in 2013 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor in 2017, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2018. Before founding MEQ Law, Quail practiced corporate law on Bay Street, working on capital markets matters. That background carries through into the firm's focus areas: incorporations and corporate reorganizations, shareholder and partnership agreements, commercial contract drafting and negotiation, mergers and acquisitions on both the buy and sell side, and startup fundraising work including seed rounds, SAFEs, convertible debt, and equity incentive plans. The firm also offers fractional legal counsel, providing part time or project based legal support to businesses that need ongoing advice without hiring in house.
