About Magonet Law Professional Corporation

Magonet Law Professional Corporation is a small Toronto litigation practice built around Michael Magonet, who has practiced civil and commercial litigation exclusively for more than 30 years. Magonet earned a B.A. from McGill University in 1985 and two law degrees, a B.C.L. and an LL.B., from McGill's Faculty of Law in 1989. Magonet was called to the Quebec Bar in 1991 and the Ontario Bar in 1992, and before starting an independent practice worked at Phillips & Vineberg and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt, two large Canadian firms.

The firm handles civil and commercial disputes for financial institutions, brokerage firms, developers, commercial landlords, and businesses and individuals of various sizes. Magonet has appeared before all levels of Ontario courts and before regulatory tribunals including the Ontario Securities Commission and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). Rather than defaulting to trial, the practice favours a negotiated or mediated resolution where that serves a client's interests, while still litigating a matter through to judgment when settlement isn't achievable. Other lawyers also refer specialized matters into the firm.
