About Lawspec PC

LAWSPEC Professional Corporation is a litigation firm in downtown Toronto, with its office at Carlton on the Park near College subway station. Partner Dragi Zekavica earned a B.A. in Constitutional History from Carleton University in 1973 and an L.L.B. from Queen's University's Faculty of Law in 1976, articled with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, and joined the Law Society of Ontario in 1978. Zekavica now has over four decades of experience in criminal trials and appeals, concentrating on Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and Extradition Act matters, and has appeared before courts up to and including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Zekavica mentored partner Elina Marinosyan for a decade before the two founded LAWSPEC PC together. Marinosyan earned an L.L.B. in 2007 and an L.L.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2021, has also appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, and practices criminal and civil litigation as well as immigration law. Marinosyan speaks Armenian and Russian. Partner Elen Gasparyan came to the firm from the Ontario Court of Justice, pro bono legal services, and a civil litigation firm, and focuses on civil litigation. The firm's two licensed paralegals, Alina Khakimova and Pavan Bassi, handle summary conviction, small claims, landlord and tenant, and provincial offences matters, adding Hindi and Punjabi to the languages spoken at the firm.

The neighbourhood

LAWSPEC PC's office is in Carlton on the Park, a mixed use building at the corner of Carlton and Jarvis Streets that overlooks Allan Gardens. The building sits in the Cabbagetown-South St. James Town area, with a streetcar stop at its doorstep and College subway station within walking distance. It's a downtown address rather than a suburban one, which fits a litigation practice built around court appearances across the Toronto region.
