KLD Law is a small, one lawyer firm founded by Kendra L. d'Eon, who practices in both Ontario and Manitoba. d'Eon was called to the Law Society of Ontario in June 2016 and to the Law Society of Manitoba in January 2022, and launched KLD Law in 2021. The firm is based out of a home office in Winnipeg, with a listing for Ontario clients in Toronto, and its focus is wills and estate planning (wills, powers of attorney, and health care directives, offered individually or as flat rate packages), Indigenous legal services, and notary and document work in both provinces.
d'Eon grew up in a small fishing community in rural southwestern Nova Scotia and is Acadian-Metis. Before law, d'Eon ran an equestrian business, earned an Equine Business Management Certificate from the University of Guelph, and completed a Bachelor of Commerce in entrepreneurship at Dalhousie University (2007 to 2012). At Osgoode Hall Law School (2012 to 2015), coursework and pro bono work with the Family Law Project centred on Indigenous legal issues and their overlap with family law and estates. Articles with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and a role as insurance defence counsel at TD Insurance came before the move into a dedicated wills, estates, and Indigenous law practice.
Wheelchair accessibleKLD Law isn't a storefront practice. d'Eon works from a home office in Winnipeg, travelling to meet clients throughout the city rather than keeping a fixed office day, and the same come to you approach carries over to Ontario, where clients are served virtually or in their own homes instead of at a public Toronto office. Much of the firm's Winnipeg client base has grown through work with the city's older adult community: a monthly Wills Clinic at 127 Regent Avenue West, run with the Transcona Council for Seniors, and regular presentations at retirement residences and seniors' groups. It's a practice built around meeting older clients where they already are, rather than asking them to travel downtown.
