Law Offices of George J. Kubes, also styled the Kubes Law Firm, is a sole-practitioner practice in downtown Toronto that combines divorce and family law with Canadian immigration law and notary public and commissioner for oaths services. George J. Kubes holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University in Kingston, and received a Barrister-at-Law degree from Osgoode Hall in Toronto. After admission to the Law Society of Upper Canada, Kubes became a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1984.
Kubes is fluent in English, Slovak, Czech and Hungarian, and can also communicate in Polish, Spanish and Russian, a language range that fits a practice built substantially around immigrant and multicultural clients. Family law files cover separation agreements, divorce, custody and access, child and spousal support, property division and restraining orders, while the immigration side handles spousal and family sponsorship, skilled worker and business immigration cases, work permits and Federal Court appeals. The office also serves as a notary public and commissioner for oaths, notarizing documents and commissioning affidavits and statutory declarations for clients from across the Greater Toronto Area.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentThe firm's office is in Law Chambers, a shared office building at 393 University Avenue set up for lawyers and small practices, a short walk from the Superior Court of Justice, Toronto City Hall, and the St. Patrick subway station. That's practical ground for a lawyer whose work runs through family court and Federal Court immigration appeals rather than a fixed retail storefront.
Before the 2016 move downtown, the practice worked out of the Annex, on Bloor Street West near Spadina, a neighbourhood that borders the University of Toronto's St. George campus and is known for its Victorian and Edwardian houses and its long-running mix of students, faculty and long-time residents.
