About Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP

Fasken is a business law firm whose roots go back to 1863, when its Toronto office was founded. The firm took its current form in 2000, when Fasken Campbell Godfrey combined with Montreal's Martineau Walker and Vancouver's Russell & DuMoulin to create Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP. In 2017 it simplified its name to Fasken. The firm now has approximately 925 lawyers working from eight Canadian offices, plus locations in London and Johannesburg.

The Toronto office is in the Bay Adelaide Centre on Bay Street, in the city's Financial District, a location the firm describes as reflecting Toronto's role as home to many clients' Canadian headquarters. Fasken's practice covers dozens of industries, from mining and energy to real estate, tax, and technology, and its lawyers wrote Canada's first comprehensive book on private mergers and acquisitions, published by LexisNexis Canada in 2024. In 2023 the firm opened an office in the Taza development on Tsuut'ina Nation lands west of Calgary, its first location on a First Nation, part of a firm-wide Reconciliation Plan it launched in 2021.

  • Fasken launched a firm-wide Reconciliation Plan on September 30, 2021, Canada's first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, built around goals that include cultural training, Indigenous recruitment and retention, and pro bono service to Indigenous peoples and organizations.
