About Merricks Law Group

Merricks Law Group is a personal injury firm headquartered in Land O' Lakes, Florida, that also keeps a Toronto-area office in Etobicoke, at 191 The West Mall. Founding senior partner Howard Merricks began a legal career as an insurance defence lawyer in Florida before moving into plaintiff-side personal injury work, and remains admitted to practice in Florida courts rather than in Ontario. The Ontario office is instead led by lawyers called to the bar in this province.

That local lead is Brian Metson, who earned an honours degree in political studies from the University of Guelph in 1989, studied law at Queen's University, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1995. After practising in Brampton and running an independent firm in Mississauga, Metson joined Merricks Law Group as counsel in 2017 and became managing lawyer of the Toronto office in 2019. Robert Lamot, another lawyer at the office, holds a law degree from Queen's University (2000) and limits practice to plaintiff personal injury work: motor vehicle accident and accident benefits claims, slip and fall and occupiers' liability cases, and long term disability and critical illness claims.

The Toronto office takes personal injury cases on a contingency basis, meaning clients pay no upfront legal fees, and says it serves clients across Toronto and the wider Greater Toronto Area.
