Eric K. Gillespie Professional Corporation is a small Toronto litigation firm focused on environmental, administrative, and municipal law, along with civil litigation that includes judicial reviews and class actions. Eric Gillespie has operated the firm under its current professional corporation structure since 2009, working from an office at 393 University Avenue in downtown Toronto. The firm represents ratepayer and community groups, municipalities, corporations, non-governmental organizations, First Nations, and individual clients across Ontario and Canada, appearing before all levels of Ontario's courts, the Supreme Court of Canada, and administrative tribunals such as the Environmental Review Tribunal.
Eric Gillespie graduated with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1994, received the Cassels Brock Practice Skills Award, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1996 after articling in part with the Canadian Environmental Law Association. The firm's work has included Pearson v. Inco, which the University of Toronto Faculty of Law describes as the largest certified environmental class action in Canada to date, and a 2020 settlement of a decade long class action on behalf of roughly 1,100 people arrested during the 2010 G20 summit in Toronto. Gillespie also teaches an environmental law externship course at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
The firm's office sits at 393 University Avenue, Suite 2000, on University Avenue in downtown Toronto, on the stretch of the avenue between Queen Street and Dundas Street. Osgoode Hall and the Toronto Courthouse at 361 University Avenue are a short walk south, putting a litigation practice within easy reach of the Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal where its lawyers regularly appear. Further north, past Dundas Street, University Avenue is sometimes called Hospital Row for its concentration of hospitals.
