Edward Perlmutter Professional Corporation is a solo commercial real estate practice in downtown Toronto, run by Edward (Ted) Perlmutter. Before opening the practice, Perlmutter spent more than two decades as a partner at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, one of Canada's national business law firms. The practice concentrates on commercial real estate: purchase and sale transactions, mortgage and other financing security, and leasing for retail, office, industrial, medical and dental space, acting for both landlords and tenants. It also handles joint ventures, including co-ownerships and limited partnerships, and cross-border Canada-U.S. real estate investment work.
Perlmutter also works as outside real estate counsel to other solo and small-firm lawyers who need extra capacity on a commercial file, drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, leases and partnership documents. Perlmutter speaks and writes on real estate topics for continuing legal education programs, having presented for the Law Society of Ontario, the Osgoode Hall Law School Intensive Program in Business Law, Federated Press, the Rotman School of Business, Morguard Legalease, the Real Estate Leasing Conference and Insight Conferences.
Wheelchair accessibleThe office sits in First Canadian Place, at the corner of King and Bay Streets, the anchor of Toronto's financial district. Built in 1975, the 72-storey tower held the title of Canada's tallest office building for 50 years, until a newer residential tower surpassed it in 2025. The building remains home to Bank of Montreal's global operations executive office and to several other Canadian and international law firms, with retail and dining space below connected to Toronto's underground PATH network.
First Canadian Place is jointly owned by Manulife Financial and CPP Investments. For a commercial real estate practice, working out of a tower anchored by a major bank, institutional owners and other national law firms places the office close to the lenders, brokers and counterparties involved in the kind of deals the practice handles.
