About Cuttress Law

Cuttress Law is a Toronto litigation and employment law practice run by a single lawyer, Colin Cuttress. Cuttress was born in Toronto's East York area and worked at the United Nations and at commercial law firms before starting the practice. The office is on Bloor Street West in Toronto. As a barrister, Cuttress focuses on pleading cases in court and conducts many of the firm's own trials, which the firm says isn't typical for every employment lawyer.

The firm's work covers employment litigation, including wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, severance negotiations, and workplace human rights matters, along with contract litigation, appeals, and defamation litigation. Cuttress has been instructed in the Superior Court, Divisional Court, and Small Claims Court, and acted as plaintiff's counsel in Ramotar v. Trader Corporation, a January 2025 Toronto Small Claims Court decision on termination clauses and Employment Standards Act insurance coverage that the firm's blog calls a win for employees. Alongside the litigation practice, Cuttress drafts contracts and wills and has contributed legal commentary to the Toronto Star.
