Collins & Metcalfe LLP is a small employment and labour firm in downtown Toronto, co-founded by Kirsty Niglas-Collins and Austen Metcalfe. The firm represents trade unions and their members, individual employees, and professionals facing discipline before their regulatory colleges, rather than employers. Its practice covers labour law, human rights, landlord and tenant matters, and professional regulation for groups including teachers, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, chiropractors, psychologists, optometrists, and occupational therapists.
Niglas-Collins holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto and an M.A. from the University of St Andrews, was the first articling student at a large Ontario union, and has appeared before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Ontario Divisional Court, and the Ontario Court of Appeal. Metcalfe earned a J.D. from Dalhousie University, an M.A. from Queen's University, and a B.A. from Bishop's University, and started out at community legal clinics in Brantford and the Halton Region before moving to a small union side labour firm in Hamilton. The firm's office is on Bay Street, and its lawyers also appear at the Landlord and Tenant Board and the Social Benefits Tribunal.
