Carissa Wong runs a solo law practice in Toronto focused on environmental law, mediation, and Indigenous rights. The practice has nearly two decades of experience in program development and alternative dispute resolution, working with government, industry, and Indigenous communities to work through conflicts without going to court. Wong holds a Certificate in Advanced Mediation from Harvard Law School's Negotiation Institute and is an appointed member of a community level land use planning appeal body in Toronto. Environmental project work covers siting and planning for renewable energy, landfill, and quarry facilities, along with the community and Indigenous relations that surround those projects.
Before focusing on legal practice, Wong spent years in environmental management across more than ten countries on four continents, including research work for WWF International and a contribution to the UN Environment Programme's 2011 green economy report. Wong's writing includes a 2019 Cambridge University Press book chapter on Indigenous children's rights and water management in Canada, plus earlier articles in the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law on climate change liability and on water governance in Yunnan, China. Wong also served as a Director on the board of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers Ontario chapter, chairing its Women's Committee.
