The neighbourhood
The office is in the Starwood Centre at 477 Richmond Street West, which also goes by the name SoHo Lofts. It went up in the early 1990s as an industrial and office condominium, and after the project went into receivership its remaining units were sold as homes. Today it's a work/live building where offices and condominium apartments share the same address.
The building sits in King West Village, which began as part of the Town of York's military reserves; York was the forerunner of the City of Toronto. Those reserves were auctioned off in the 1830s to make way for a "New Town", and King West grew into a busy hub of industry and manufacturing. A good many of its factory buildings from the 1800s and early 1900s have since been turned into homes and commercial space.
