About Brown Litigation

Brown Litigation is the practice name for D. Jared Brown Professional Corporation, a two lawyer commercial litigation firm in Toronto. It was founded in 2015 by D. Jared Brown, who had headed the commercial litigation group at a mid sized litigation firm Brown had co founded, then chose to focus solely on commercial disputes in a smaller setting. Brown holds a B.A. from the University of Windsor (1998) and an LL.B. from the University of Windsor Faculty of Law (2001), and was called to the Ontario bar in 2002. Brown is a former Bencher (Governor) of the Law Society of Ontario and has testified on legal issues before the Canadian Senate's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee.

The firm represents businesses and the people who run them, across collection of accounts, commercial landlord and tenant matters, construction litigation, contract disputes, employment litigation and wrongful dismissal, shareholder disputes under the Ontario Business Corporations Act, and real property disputes. Its second lawyer, Lauren Findlay, holds a JD from the University of British Columbia (2012) and a BMOS from Western University (2009), and articled at the firm in 2012 before returning as an associate in 2013, after earlier experience at Cassels Brock and Ontario's Ministry of Government Services. Brown Litigation works from a single Toronto office rather than a branch network.

The neighbourhood

Brown Litigation's office is in the EPlace building on Eglinton Avenue East, just off Yonge Street in Toronto. The intersection is the centre of Yonge-Eglinton, one of Toronto's business districts outside the downtown core, where corporate offices including Canadian Tire, TVOntario, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario are headquartered, and it has direct access to the Eglinton subway station. It's a fitting spot for a firm built around advising other businesses rather than serving walk-in clients, and the firm keeps that single office rather than a network of branches.
