About Bourque Family Law

Bourque Family Law is a solo family law practice based in downtown Toronto, serving clients across the Greater Toronto Area. Founder Dawn Bourque opened the practice in the fall of 2011, after several years practising family law at a large Bay Street firm. Dawn Bourque was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 and clerked for Supreme Court of Canada Justice Bastarache before that call. The firm handles separation and divorce, child and spousal support, property division, and cohabitation and marriage contracts, and it offers a range of ways to work through a matter, from full court representation to private mediation and arbitration to limited scope retainers for people who only need help with part of their case.

Before law, Dawn Bourque earned a B.A. and an LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of New Brunswick and an M.A. in Canadian Studies from Carleton University, and pursued doctoral studies in Women's History and Canadian Legal History on a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada fellowship. That academic period included founding and directing the Women's Resource Centre at the University of New Brunswick, an advocacy group that gave students and community members information and counselling. The firm describes its approach as caring and cost effective, with a free telephone consultation offered to prospective clients.
