About Bickford & Associates

Bickford & Associates is an insurance defence and general litigation firm based in Etobicoke, at the corner of Islington Avenue and Bloor Street West in Toronto's west end. Richard Bickford, the firm's founding lawyer, has spent a career in insurance defence litigation with a focus on tort law, an area the firm's lawyers now practice almost exclusively. Bickford articled at Fireman Regan LLP, a Toronto insurance defence firm, before going on to found Bickford & Associates, which now lists eight lawyers on its team page. The firm describes its approach as rooted in partnership, cooperation, and determination, and says it treats every client's dollar like it is its own.

The firm's practice covers personal injury, products liability, property damage, defamation, and livestock and cargo claims, along with occupiers' liability, automobile insurance tort, fire loss, and insurance fraud matters. A few lawyers on the team also take on employment and landlord and tenant disputes. The team trained through several paths into the Ontario bar, including a dual JD program at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy, an LLB from the University of Leicester in the UK, and, in one case, a call to the Bar of England and Wales followed by enrolment as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh before qualifying in Ontario. Team members between them speak Bengali, Hindi, and Urdu in addition to English.
