About Ameer Law

Ameer Law is a Toronto practice working in family law, residential and commercial real estate, and estate planning, from wills to powers of attorney. It also runs an immigration practice that takes on clients from around the world, and its services are available in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

Malik Muhammad Suliman opened the practice in Toronto in June 2015 and named it after the founder's late father. Real estate was the starting point, and the firm has since branched out into family law and wills and estates.

The founder's route into Canadian law is an unusual one. Malik Muhammad Suliman earned a master's degree in chemistry and an LL.B. at the University of the Punjab in Pakistan, then trained as a paralegal at Seneca College after arriving in Canada and built up experience in small claims and landlord and tenant work. A Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation followed, along with the 2014-15 Law Practice Program run by Ryerson University and the Law Society of Ontario, and the call to the bar came in June 2015.

Real estate clients can start with a free consultation, and family clients can reach the firm online for free counselling and an online appointment.

Practice areas

Residential and commercial real estate

Ameer Law acts on purchases, sales and refinances for both homes and commercial property. Its real estate work also takes in private mortgages, reviews of leases, purchase agreements and condo status certificates, title searches, buying a business, and drafting or reviewing commercial leases.

Family law

The family team represents clients on divorce, access, custody and support claims in the Toronto courts, and drafts prenuptial agreements. On equalization of family property, the firm's equalization lawyer works through current and earlier values, down payments and the rest of the financial history before preparing the equalization.

Wills, estates and powers of attorney

Ameer Law drafts wills and powers of attorney, including powers that deal with banking and financial matters, retirement benefits, real estate and health care. Before a will is designed, the firm looks at the family's needs, the beneficiaries and what the real estate is worth.

Immigration

Immigration files at Ameer Law run from Express Entry and family sponsorship to work and study permits, permanent residency and citizenship. On refugee and humanitarian applications, the firm can also act for clients in appeals or litigation that come up during the process.

How Ameer Law works

Ameer Law offers counselling to partners before it moves to advocacy, with the aim of heading off decisions people might regret. Across its files, the firm commits to keeping clients informed and acting on their instructions, and to working alongside the banks, realtors, mortgage brokers and other lawyers involved so the process runs smoothly.

Frequently asked questions

Will Ameer Law go through a condo's status certificate before I sign the purchase agreement?
Ameer Law reviews status certificates in full, before the agreement is signed or afterwards, to catch potential problems. A careful review shows the financial condition of the condominium corporation and of the unit, and it can reveal what the unit owner owes the corporation, such as unpaid common expenses.
