About Perlmutter Law

Perlmutter Law is a solo personal injury and insurance law practice in downtown Toronto, run by Jeffrey Perlmutter, a graduate of York University and Osgoode Hall Law School who was called to the Ontario bar in 1983. The practice concentrates on four areas: motor vehicle accident claims, covering both tort actions for pain and suffering or lost income and statutory accident benefits claims; occupiers' liability and slip and fall cases; disputes over homeowners', automobile, and business insurance coverage; and long term disability claims where an insurer has denied or delayed payment.

Perlmutter Law works on a contingency fee basis for personal injury and disability claimants, so clients pay nothing upfront and owe a percentage of any recovery, with no fee owed if a case doesn't settle, aside from out of pocket expenses. The firm offers a free, no obligation initial case evaluation. Jeffrey Perlmutter belongs to The Advocates' Society, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Toronto Lawyers Association.

The neighbourhood

The firm's office is in a heritage designated building at 36 Toronto Street in downtown Toronto. Built around 1914 and known as the Excelsior Life Building, it was designed by architect E. J. Lennox. A 1986 to 1987 renovation joined the original Lennox building with the adjacent 1874 Millichamps building through a new atrium, and the property is protected under the Ontario Heritage Act as part of the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Heritage Conservation District.
