Albert S. Frank runs a solo business and civil litigation practice from an office in downtown Toronto. Frank earned a law degree from the University of Alberta in 1983 and was called to the bar in Alberta in 1984, practising first in Edmonton. In 1988 Frank was called to the Ontario bar and joined the Bay Street firm of Gardiner, Blumberg as a business trial lawyer, working there for more than a decade before setting up an independent practice, later a partnership, and eventually the current firm.
The firm handles business and corporate law, and civil litigation such as shareholder and contract disputes, along with administrative matters including professional discipline defence for pharmacists and other regulated professionals. Frank has appeared before the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and its Commercial List, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, and the Federal Court of Canada. In 2011, Frank was counsel for the plaintiff in Altman v. Steve's Music, an Ontario Superior Court wrongful dismissal case that awarded 22 months' salary plus damages for mental distress and punitive damages over the manner of the termination. Frank has also taught Civil Litigation at the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Course and spoken to law students at the University of Windsor on employment law.
Frank's office is in University Centre, a 22 storey tower at 393 University Avenue in downtown Toronto. Not far away, 330 University Avenue houses the Superior Court of Justice's civil, Commercial List, and bankruptcy divisions, the same areas of law that make up much of Frank's litigation practice. The avenue is also known locally as Hospital Row for its run of teaching hospitals, and Osgoode Hall sits close by as well.
