About John Winter's Law Office

John Winter's Law Office is a solo family law practice on the shores of Georgian Bay in Midland, Ontario. John Winter joined the Midland firm of Deacon, Taws in 1988, then set up an independent sole practice in 1991, and the office has run under Winter's own name in that same stretch of Simcoe County ever since.

Winter holds a combined honours degree in history and political science from York University and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, followed by a Master of Laws in constitutional law and the Charter in 1991. Winter was called to the Ontario bar in 1986, then served as law clerk to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Ontario and as in house counsel for the Ontario Human Rights Commission before moving into private practice in Midland. The practice today covers family law litigation and negotiation, including separation, divorce, custody, access, support, division of property, and child protection, along with wills and powers of attorney. Winter is trained in mediation and collaborative family law, sits as a panel member for the Office of the Children's Lawyer and as a panel lawyer for the Family Responsibility Office, and has taught family law in the Law Clerk program at Georgian College.
