About Liu and Wu Law Office

Liu and Wu Law Office is a two-lawyer firm in Ottawa, run by Lei and Hui, who describe themselves as business partners as well as a couple in life who built the practice together. Both immigrated to Canada from China around 2000 after training as electrical engineers. Lei earned a B.Eng from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1992 and an M.Eng from Zhejiang University in 1997, while Hui earned a B.Eng and an M.Eng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 1992 and 1995. Both had worked for high-tech companies in the Kanata area of the capital region before going back to school, completing J.D. degrees at the University of Alberta in 2008 and being called to the Ontario bar in 2009.

Lei articled and practiced with Ottawa general practitioner Paul J. Colin before joining Hui at the firm. Hui articled with Smart & Biggar, a national intellectual property firm, and was also called to the New York State bar in 2011. The firm's tagline, "Ottawa Lawyers for Family and Small Business," sums up its focus: residential real estate, family law, wills and estate planning, small business matters, and civil dispute resolution, plus notary and commissioner of oaths services. Clients deal with Lei and Hui directly, by appointment, at the firm's Ottawa office.
