Founder David Law founded Law at Work in 2017, after earlier partnerships at Gowling WLG and Emond Harnden LLP, two established Ottawa firms with labour and employment practices. Law was called to the bar in Ontario in 1988, after earning a BA from the University of Toronto in 1983 and an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1986. The firm has one lawyer.

Law has also been a guest lecturer and former sessional professor at Queen's University's Faculty of Law.
