Hameed Law is a small Ottawa firm that lawyer Yavar Hameed founded in 2004 to focus on human rights advocacy. The practice covers administrative law, civil litigation, employment and labour law, criminal defence, civil liberties, and prisoner rights, along with Supreme Court of Canada agency work for lawyers and organizations across the country. Hameed was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001, after a law degree from the University of Ottawa and a master's degree in international affairs from Carleton University. The firm's cases have gone before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Tribunal, the Parole Board of Canada, and the Federal Courts. Kebaowek First Nation, one of the firm's clients, successfully challenged a permit that would have let Canadian Nuclear Laboratories harm three endangered species while building a nuclear waste facility, a result the Federal Court of Appeal upheld in 2026. In a separate case, the Federal Court of Appeal overturned a refusal of 96 healthcare practitioners' requests for experiential psilocybin training. Hameed Law also offers limited scope retainers, taking on one defined task, such as a motion or a mediation, so a client can handle other parts of a matter and keep costs down.
