About AEH Criminal Law

AEH Criminal Law is a sole practitioner criminal defence firm founded by Omar Abou El Hassan, with offices in Ottawa and Mississauga. Abou El Hassan earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminology, with a minor in psychology, from Ryerson University, then a law degree from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. Before being called to the Ontario bar in 2019, Abou El Hassan clerked at the Ontario Court of Justice during law school and interned with the federal Department of Justice's War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity Section.

The firm handles criminal matters from the police investigation stage through trial and appeal, including drug offences, firearms and weapons charges, impaired driving, violent and sexual offences, bail hearings, and youth criminal justice cases. Abou El Hassan has conducted trials in both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice and has argued appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal. As a sole practitioner, Abou El Hassan handles files personally rather than passing clients between staff or junior lawyers, and the firm accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates in select cases. Abou El Hassan is fluent in English and Arabic.
