The firm was founded in 2015 by Fy Virani, who grew up in Guelph, played five seasons of junior hockey, and studied criminal justice and public policy at the University of Guelph before earning a law degree at the University of Victoria.
The firm's origin is personal. In January 2014 a residential fire in Guelph took the life of a member of the Virani family and sent four others to hospital. Over the following year the founder handled the family's own insurance claim and settled it for more than double the insurer's first offer. That experience became the template for the practice: deal directly with insurers, read the policy closely, and press for a fair settlement without heading straight to court. Two lawyers now lead the work, supported by a team of licensed paralegals, and the firm says it has helped resolve claims worth more than $100 million.
