About Chorney Law

Chorney Law is a full service law firm in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, founded and led by Wayne A. Chorney, who was admitted to the Ontario Bar on April 20, 1988. Before opening the practice, Chorney worked as a Federal Prosecuting Agent for the Department of Justice from 1988 to 2014 and as a Provincial Prosecutor for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry from 2000 to 2023, and has served as a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court since 1998. That mix of prosecution, judicial work and private practice now feeds a general practice covering real estate transactions, wills and estates, powers of attorney, criminal defence, civil litigation and corporate law.

The firm has also taken on the wills and powers of attorney files of clients whose own lawyers, Albert D. Ferranti and Gerald P. Maich, retired, and of clients of the late David G. Stone, letting those clients continue their estate planning without starting over with a new office. Chorney Law serves individuals, families and businesses across Sault Ste. Marie and the wider Algoma district, backed by a small in house team that includes a real estate assistant and office manager and a certified paralegal handling criminal, estate and powers of attorney files.
