About Tim

Tim Pearkes founded the litigation boutique that became Pearkes & Fernandez after relocating to Nelson in 1994, and he has since argued numerous trials and appeals before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of British Columbia. Beyond his general litigation practice, he is a qualified arbitrator and construction adjudicator, helping parties resolve disputes, including construction payment matters, outside the courtroom. He studied liberal arts at Stanford University, graduating in 1983, then earned his law degree from UBC's Faculty of Law in 1987 and was admitted to the Law Society of British Columbia the following year. Early in his career he litigated at the Vancouver firm Edwards Kenny & Bray, working alongside prominent counsel including Thomas R. Berger. Outside the firm, he has served on the board of the Touchstones Museum of Art & History and helped renovate a historic downtown Nelson building that now houses the firm's offices.
