About Goad and Goad LLP

One of the highest-rated law firms in Cambridge, going by its Google reviews.

Goad and Goad LLP is a general practice firm in Cambridge, Ontario. Its lawyers work as barristers, solicitors, and notaries public, and they act for individuals, businesses, local governments, and non-profit and charitable organizations. The practice covers business and corporate law, real estate, wills and estates, employment, municipal and land development work, and construction. It's a small firm with a single office, made up of two partners, counsel, and long-serving staff who look after real estate and conveyancing.

The firm's roots in the area go back to 1969, when Gary Goad articled at a Kitchener firm and became a partner at Lochead, Sills, Osborne, Madorin, Bean and Goad. A sole practice opened in Cambridge in 1972, and the Goad and Goad name dates to 1980, when Tim Goad joined. The firm has worked from 53 Cambridge Street, on the Galt side of the city, since 1987, after starting out down the block at number 65. Its municipal practice reaches well beyond Cambridge, advising small communities that have no in-house lawyers, conservation authorities, and larger municipalities, and some of its lawyers have spent more than a decade as in-house counsel to corporations. The firm describes its work plainly as a service business built on long-term client relationships.

The neighbourhood

The office is at 53 Cambridge Street in Galt, the part of Cambridge that most people just call downtown. Galt grew up as a mill town on the Grand River and stayed an independent city until 1973, when the province folded it together with Preston, Hespeler, and Blair to create Cambridge. That union was unpopular at the time, and decades later plenty of residents still introduce themselves as being from Galt or Preston before they say Cambridge.

The Goad family comes from the Preston side of that history, which gives the firm a long line of sight across the old towns it works in. Downtown Galt is a compact grid of streets by the Grand River and its bridges, and the firm's steady real estate and municipal work has tracked the region's growth outward from those streets for decades.
