About Simon
Simon K. Yu is a Barrister and Solicitor in Edmonton whose practice focuses on immigration and refugee litigation. He has 24 years of experience appearing in hearings and appeals before all four divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board and in judicial reviews before the Federal Court, and he has handled over 2,000 cases for clients from more than 120 countries. Yu also represents clients on Humanitarian and Compassionate applications, Pre-Removal Risk Assessments, and spousal sponsorship applications. He immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1980 and earned his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Alberta in 1986 and 1995. Yu volunteered as an immigration lawyer at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and served on the Northern Alberta Appeal Committee of Legal Aid Alberta, and he received Legal Aid Alberta's first annual Lawyer Appreciation Award in the Roster Lawyer category.
