About Sheilagh

Sheilagh Murphy has practised law in Newfoundland and Labrador since 1999. She holds a Bachelor of Science (1995) and Bachelor of Arts (1995) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a Bachelor of Laws (1998) from the University of New Brunswick. She is a past Chair (2009-2017) and Vice-Chair (2007-2009) of the NL Labour Relations Board and has been a partner with MacNab Fagan & Murphy since returning to private practice in 2017. Her practice focuses on neutral labour and employment law as an arbitrator, mediator, and independent workplace investigator. She also serves as an external adjudicator for the Canada Industrial Relations Board and as Chairperson of the NL Standing Fish Price-Setting Panel. Her volunteer activities include serving as a Law Society of NL Bencher and committee member, a Law Foundation of NL Governor, an NL Labour Management Arbitration Committee member, and Rear Commodore of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club. She is a former Chair of the Board of CBIA/Lawyers Financial, former President of the NL Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and a former member of the Federal Judicial Appointment Advisory Committee for NL. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers for 2026, 2025 and 2024, and is a member of the National Academy of Arbitrators, the Canadian Bar Association, and the ADR Institute of Canada.
