Sean Flaherty is a tax litigator with McKenzie Lake Lawyers in London, and tax disputes are the heart of the practice. As part of the firm's Tax Group, Flaherty helps clients through difficult, complicated fights with government at every level, whether the other side is Ottawa, the Province of Ontario or an Ontario municipality.

Called to the bar in 2009 after earning a law degree at Western University, Flaherty also runs a commercial litigation practice alongside the tax work. That side covers contract and business disputes, employment and human rights matters, and defamation claims, and it's included litigation work for many First Nations across Canada. Flaherty's appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, Ontario's Superior Court and Court of Appeal, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Ontario Labour Board.

Flaherty's background includes time in consumer sales and the sale of goods, which gave a direct look at how much effort it takes to keep a business running. In Flaherty's view, lawyer and client should operate as one team, but the goal is to handle a legal file with as little disruption to a client's business and personal life as possible. Building fresh, efficient strategies to move a client's position forward in a dispute is the part of the job Flaherty enjoys and takes seriously.
