About Russell

Russell S. Tretiak is the senior counsel of First Law Corporation, practising exclusively in family law litigation and representation before professional bodies at Quay Law Centre in New Westminster. He was appointed King's Counsel in 1996 in recognition of his contribution to the community and legal profession, an honour he says is limited to about 3% of BC lawyers. Over more than 40 years of practice, Tretiak handled an estimated 3,500 cases and used a barrister and solicitor model, assigning day to day file work to staff while directing case theory and court strategy himself. He is a former Bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia and served on several of its committees, including the Discipline, Credentials, and Ethics committees, and has written and presented continuing legal education material on cross-examination and family law case management. He holds an LLB from the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Law and a BA from Simon Fraser University.
